Rarely is anything static. Things are always changeable, always moveable – whether we like it or not.
I personally love it when it comes to decision-making. It gives you a sense of freedom. I understand that there are very weighty decisions in business that can’t be taken lightly, but sometimes the choice you make is not going to change the course of your business. Whether it’s you, as the leader or your employees.
Let me give you an example: The other day my client called and said they wanted to add a cart to their website; specifically, he mentioned Shopify. When I went to my web developer, she recommended another commerce site, and she gave me the reasons why. I made a decision based on her knowledge. If, when I speak to the client, he says: “No, it’s Shopify, nothing else”
Ok, I change it. It’s not so big of a decision, albeit an important one, that it’s not changeable. I can in fact, go back and do the Shopify cart. My client hired me to make the decisions. He doesn’t need me agonizing over a cart on a website.
You have to let yourself and your employees know that 98% of the decisions they make good and bad, will most likely change in the future. The fun part is when you are faced with a change to your decision and you have to go from there. When you have to revised and strategize.
Impermanence gives you the room to be an active decision maker and not be paralyzed by fear around your choices.
So, go for it…Know that you are capable enough to regroup if it wasn’t the right choice, or bask in the glory of it being the right call!
Till next time,
Jennifer
